Description | The E. coli O103 antigen structure has been determined [1], and the biosynthetic cluster analyzed [2]. The monomer unit is a linear pentasaccharide including one 3-deoxy-3-(R)-3-hydroxybutyramido-D-fucose per unit. The cluster includes four glycosyltransferases (WbtDEFG), but accurate assignment of which enzyme carries out each reaction has not yet been determined. The needed reactions are: 1) aDGalNAc-(1->3)-bDGlcNAc, 2) aDGlcNAc-(1->4)-aDGalNAc, 3) bDFuc3NBu-(1->6)-aDGlcNAc, and 4) bDGlc-(1->2)-bDFuc3NBu. |
