CommentMembers of this protein family are gamma-butyrobetaine hydroxylase, both bacterial and eukarytotic. This enzyme catalyzes the last step in the conversion of lysine to carnitine. Carnitine can serve as a compatible solvent in bacteria and also participates in fatty acid metabolism.
