CommentThis small protein, designated YqfC in Bacillus subtilis, is both restricted to and universal in sporulating species of the Firmcutes, such as Bacillus subtilis and Clostridium perfringens. It is part of the sigma(E)-controlled regulon, and its mutation leads to a sporulation defect.
