CommentMembers of this protein family are the substrate-binding protein, a lipid-anchored protein of Gram-positive bacteria in all examples found so far, that include NgcE of the chitin-degrader, Streptomyces olivaceoviridis, and close homologs from other species likely to share the same function. NgcE binds both N-acetylglucosamine and the chitin dimer, N,N'-diacetylchitobiose.
