Research Interests and Accomplishments
Gwyn Benders joined Ham Smith's Synthetic Biology and Bioenergy research group in August 2005 as a post-doctoral fellow, and is now a staff scientist. She works under the advisorship of John Glass on both mycoplasma and yeast genetics as they relate to genomic engineering.
Gwyn received a B.A. in Biology from Bard College, New York, and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Clyde A. Hutchison III advised her dissertation, Transcriptional Organization in the Reduced Genome of Mycoplasma genitalium.
In November 2007 she moved to JCVI West in San Diego, CA, but remains part of the same research group in Rockville, MD.
