Research Interests and Accomplishments
John E Gill is the Senior Manager of Quality Systems at J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). He leads the Quality Systems Team responsible for quality control/quality assurance, automation, and process optimization for both the Sanger and Next-Generation Sequencing platforms. John comes to JCVI from TIGR where he headed a group responsible for research & development and quality control efforts in the sequencing facility, including efforts to implement capillary based sequencers into a production sequencing environment. He was involved in the initial scale up of operations at JCVI’s sequencing center in which a fleet of 100 3730s were placed into production. He also led numerous efforts in scaling up plasmid isolation processes and sequencing reaction scale up.
John earned his bachelor’s degree in biology (concentration in anatomy & physiology) and a master’s degree in molecular biology/biotechnology (thesis was focused on the effects that polyamines have on global gene expression), both from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
