Research Interests and Accomplishments
Dr. Vivien G. Dugan is an Assistant Professor at the J. Craig Venter Institute in Rockville, Maryland. Vivien received her B.S. from Union College and her M.S. and Ph.D. from the College of Veterinary Medicine, The University of Georgia. She began her postdoctoral fellowship with The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) and completed this training in the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD.
Vivien's research interests are directed at using genomics in applied biomedical research of zoonotic agents to better understand human infectious diseases. She has worked with various tick-transmitted zoonotic bacteria as well as influenza A viruses originating from avian, swine, and human hosts. During her time with TIGR, her research focused on avian influenza viral genomics and phylogenetics, which furthered the understanding of influenza viral evolution within the natural reservoir host.
