Setup a Visit
The DISCOVER GENOMICS! Mobile Laboratory Program has been developed as a middle school science enrichment program, grades six through eight. Elementary and high schools may be interested in the Mobile Equipment Program and/or scheduling the Education staff for an in the classroom activity.
At the end of each academic year, current participating teachers will be sent an invitation to participate again in the upcoming academic year. Participating teachers attended a 24-hour hands-on workshop and hosted four laboratory activities for which their students participated in the evaluation program. From March through June of that same year, applications from new teachers will be accepted to participate in the summer training program, provided their school is within the 50-mile radius of Rockville. Based on availability, new teachers will be selected to participate in the summer training and academic year.
Beginning 2008-2009 academic year, participation in the summer training is mandatory for new teachers to participate in the Mobile Laboratory Program. Other professional development programs will not be accepted for participation in the Mobile Laboratory Program.
Teachers are selected to participate based on their level of commitment as demonstrated in their letter of intent.
Teachers interested in having the Mobile Lab come to their school, but not able to commit to the training OR not interested in multiple visits, can contact the Education Group and will be placed on a waiting list. The waiting list will begin new June 1 of every year. These teachers will be notified in September. Best efforts will be made to accommodate the teachers into the calendar.
