Giving — Funding Opportunities
Hand-in-hand with its mission to advance the science of genomics, the Venter Institute has long been committed to communicating with and educating society about the implications of this new science. The overarching goal of the Policy Center is to help decision makers understand and anticipate the impact of 21st century biology, and where appropriate, to devise policies that will enhance positive — and avoid negative — societal outcomes. The Venter Institute recently took a leadership role in a 20-month, Sloan Foundation-funded review of synthetic biology that resulted in a widely read report on options for governance of the field. Future projects will include addressing access to genetic resources in other countries and policy issues related to sequencing the human genome.
