Accelerating the Pace of Discovery with Your Support
Advancing Genomic Research
The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) has a long history of pioneering genomic research and successful grant funding for this research. However, the biggest scientific breakthroughs developed at JCVI — including sequencing the first genome of a free-living organism, sequencing the first microbiome, and constructing the first synthetic cell — were funded with philanthropic support. We have a variety of ways you can become a partner in advancing genomics for a better future, including our newly launched Genomic Frontier Fund. You can also direct your support to one of our innovative research programs, our sustainable laboratory or a distinguished scientist. Please join us in fueling the most exciting scientific research today.
J. Craig Venter Institute is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions to J. Craig Venter Institute are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. J. Craig Venter Institute’s tax identification number is 52-1842938.
Genomic Frontier Fund
The Genomic Frontier Fund is our new annual fund designed to provide unrestricted philanthropic support to our programs and operating expenses. Your gift will be directed to areas of highest need, including early stage research.
Innovative Research Programs
Private funding helps unleash our scientists’ most groundbreaking ideas, moving them from mere plans to impactful programs which is why we depend on the transformational gifts of supportive donors like you. We have diverse areas of research, allowing you to build your legacy through work that is most important to you.
Named Faculty Chairs
Funding for named faculty chairs enables JCVI to attract new distinguished professors or support current senior level faculty. Donations can be made with outright gifts, through multi-year pledge payments, or through a will or other planned giving vehicles.
JCVI Sustainable Lab
Science that is truly at the cutting edge requires state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and technology. Your named gift will allow our researchers to continue transcending scientific boundaries by providing new equipment or expanding a lab.
Planned giving is the transfer of assets to the J. Craig Venter Institute during one’s lifetime or as part of an estate plan. Leave a lasting legacy at JCVI for you and your family through planned giving opportunities like:
- Bequests through wills and trusts
- Beneficiary designations (involving all or part of life insurance policies, IRA and retirement plans, etc.)
- Gifts from a donor-advised fund
- Gifts of securities or real estate
- Endowed gifts
