Driving Directions

JCVI is in the Research and Development District (RaDD) on the downtown Embarcadero, on Waterfront Place between North Harbor Drive and Pacific Highway — one block north of West G Street, two blocks south of West Broadway, and directly inland from the USS Midway Museum.

From San Diego International Airport (SAN)

About 2 miles, roughly 10 minutes by car.

• Follow signs from the terminals to North Harbor Drive southbound
• Continue past the cruise ship terminal and Broadway Pier
• Waterfront Place is on your left, just past the USS Midway Museum

From I-5

• Take an exit signed for downtown San Diego and the waterfront
• Head west to Pacific Highway, then south to Waterfront Place
• Waterfront Place runs between Pacific Highway and North Harbor Drive

Mass Transit

Trolley

The nearest station is Santa Fe Depot (1050 Kettner Boulevard), about a 10-minute walk. Two lines stop there:

• UC San Diego Blue Line — UTC Transit Center to San Ysidro Transit Center, connecting downtown directly to UTC and UC San Diego
• Green Line — 12th & Imperial to El Cajon Transit Center, by way of Old Town and Mission Valley

America Plaza station is a comparable walk. The Orange Line does not serve Santa Fe Depot; it terminates downtown at Courthouse Station.

From the Airport

MTS Route 992 runs between both airport terminals and downtown every 15 minutes, 4:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, reaching Santa Fe Depot in about 15 minutes. Traveling to the airport, board at Kettner Boulevard and West Broadway, across from the Depot.

COASTER from North County

NCTD’s COASTER serves eight stations between Oceanside and downtown San Diego, ending at Santa Fe Depot — 30 trips each weekday and 20 trips on Saturdays and Sundays.

Amtrak

Pacific Surfliner trains stop at Santa Fe Depot.

Fares

MTS and NCTD both use the PRONTO fare system. Ticket machines are at the airport, Santa Fe Depot, and America Plaza, or you can use the PRONTO app. On Route 992 you may also tap a credit card, phone, or smartwatch when boarding.

From Baltimore, MD and BWI Airport

Take I-95 South to I-495 West (Silver Spring). Follow I-495 West nine miles to I-270 and travel north to Shady Grove Road (Exit 8 West). Continue to the traffic light and turn left onto Shady Grove Road. Make a right at the 4th light onto Key West Ave. (MD 28 West). Turn left at the 2nd light onto Broschart Rd. Take the 1st left into the parking lot and follow the sign to turn right to Building 9605.

From Washington, DC

Take Wisconsin Avenue North to I-270. Take I-270 North toward Frederick. Follow I-270 approximately 10 miles to Shady Grove Road (Exit 8 West). Continue to the traffic light and turn left onto Shady Grove Road. Make a right at the 4th light onto Key West Ave. (MD 28 West). Turn left at the 2nd light onto Broschart Rd. Take the 1st left into the parking lot and follow the sign to turn right to Building 9605.

From National Airport

Take George Washington Memorial Parkway North 12 miles to I-495 (Capital Beltway). Travel North to Maryland to Exit 38 (I-270). Follow I-270 approximately 10 miles to Shady Grove Road (Exit 8 West). Continue to the traffic light and turn left onto Shady Grove Road. Make a right at the 4th light onto Key West Ave. (MD 28 West). Turn left at the 2nd light onto Broschart Rd. Take the 1st left into the parking lot and follow the sign to turn right to Building 9605.

From Dulles Airport

Take Dulles Access Road (toward Washington) 13 miles to I-495. Travel North eight miles to Exit 38 (I-270). Follow I-270 approximately 10 miles to Shady Grove Road (Exit 8 West). Continue to the traffic light and turn left onto Shady Grove Road. Make a right at the 4th light onto Key West Ave. (MD 28 West). Turn left at the 2nd light onto Broschart Rd. Take the 1st left into the parking lot and follow the sign to turn right to Building 9605.

Public Transportation

From National Airport

Metrorail is conveniently located at National Airport. The Washington, DC Metrorail system has an elevated Metrorail station connected to the concourse level of terminals B and C at Reagan National Airport. Metrorail fare cards may be purchased at machines located at all entrances to the Airport Metrorail station. The station is also fully accessible via elevators. Take the Yellow Line to the Gallery Pl-Chinatown stop. From there transfer to the Red Line towards Shady Grove. The Shady Grove stop is the most convenient. Bus schedule links are below. If you prefer to take a taxi it is suggested you call ahead to make sure one is available.

From Shady Grove Metro Station
