Biomarker Discovery and Systems Biology for Types 1 and 2 Diabetes and Healthy Aging

The investigator’s laboratory characterizes body fluid proteomes and microbiomes to discover molecular and cellular biomarkers for these chronic disease conditions. The eventual goal is to validate targets for clinical diagnostics and prognostic tests. Multi-omics studies are used to survey the extent to which inflammation in people living with diabetes and in the elderly affect long-term health. Specific microbes in the gut may be beneficial to health outcomes and reverse disease progression.
